Overseas Job Offer Checklist: Verify the Employer, Country and Contract

A social-media post can be a useful lead, but it is not proof that an overseas vacancy is genuine. Before paying a recruiter, sharing original documents or travelling, verify the employer, destination and written terms through official channels.

Positions advertised in the recruitment reel

The reel is being used here only as a reference for the vacancy categories. The roles advertised are:

  • Electrician
  • Plumber
  • Mason
  • Carpenter
  • Painter
  • Storekeeper

The reel also mentions monthly pay and benefits, but the exact employer, destination country and final written employment terms are not clearly established in the material available to APICSTOCK. It refers to “Central Africa” while showing South Africa’s flag, so applicants should not assume the country or employer until those details are confirmed in writing and independently verified.

Check these details before you apply

  1. Get the exact destination. Ask for the country, city, worksite and legal name of the employer. A broad regional label is not enough to check local rules or the correct Indian Mission.
  2. Verify the employer. Request the employer’s full registered name, address, official contact details and the name of the person hiring you. Confirm that the job offer actually comes from that employer.
  3. Check the recruiter. Ask for the Indian recruiting agent’s legal name and registration number. The Ministry of External Affairs says recruiting agents conducting overseas recruitment must be registered with the Protector General of Emigrants. Check the current status using the official MEA/eMigrate resources below. A social-media page or WhatsApp number alone does not establish registration.
  4. Read the complete contract. The written agreement should spell out the job title and duties, workplace, salary and currency, whether pay is gross or take-home, deductions, hours, overtime, contract length, leave, accommodation, food, insurance, travel and return arrangements. Ask who pays each cost. Keep a signed copy in a language you understand.
  5. Confirm the visa and work permission. Make sure the visa and permit allow the specific job in the named country. Do not travel on a tourist visa for work. Check whether emigration clearance applies to your circumstances and passport.
  6. Protect your money and documents. Do not sign blank papers or accept a contract that differs from the one you agreed to. Do not hand over your passport or original certificates, or pay charges, until you have verified the offer and understand the current official rules. Keep copies of messages, receipts and documents.

Where to verify

Start with the MEA Overseas Employment resources and the official list and guidance for recruiting agents. Read the MEA’s FAQ for intending emigrants and guidance for foreign employers. If any detail is unclear, contact the Protector General of Emigrants or the Indian Mission responsible for the destination country using contact details from the official MEA website.

Before booking travel

Once the documents check out, keep the signed contract, employer and recruiter contacts, visa and permit details, and receipts somewhere you can access safely. Share copies and your itinerary with someone you trust. Confirm the exact worksite and arrival arrangements with the employer through independently verified contact details. If the employer, destination, job duties or pay changes at the last moment, pause and verify the new terms before travelling. For country-specific questions, use the Indian Mission’s official contact page and the destination country’s government guidance. Do not rely on a recruiter’s forwarded screenshot as the only evidence.

About the vacancy in the reel

The reel’s roles, salary range and stated benefits should be treated as claims made in the post, not as independently confirmed job terms. The destination is unclear and the foreign employer is not identified in the information available to us. Verify those points directly before applying, paying, sharing documents or making travel plans.

APICSTOCK does not verify, recruit for or accept applications for this vacancy. This article is general safety guidance, not legal or immigration advice. Rules vary by country and individual circumstances; check current official guidance before acting.
